Book Shelf Made from BooksHere is an interesting concept. The resident artist of ThisIntoThat.com has taken old, outdated books and turned them into something artistic and useful. After receiving good reviews from the original bookcase he constructed this way, he felt he might be onto something. He has continued to collect books and build shelves for his own use, for sale, and custom creations for particular individuals. Each shelf generally sticks to a theme of some sort, such as cooking, books, or law. Some of the creations even integrate other original objects into the shelf. The top shelf of one kitchen themed item is half of an old pan, designed to store fruits or vegetables. Another game inspired shelf has three golf club heads mounted beneath the shelf as coat rack pegs. Each book shelf or bookcase is reinforced using reclaimed lumber, so it retains the strenght of a normal shelf. ThisIntoThat.com has several for sale on their website, and they take custom orders. This is also a neat idea for something you can try yourself, if you have the resources and skills to do so. We realize this doesn't fit everyone's decor or taste, but it's one more possibility to reuse something that's taking up space to become something that saves space...and add a conversation peice to your room at the same time! |
